Your home is your homestead.

Homesteading is a mindset:
  • it is about believing in the interconnectedness with the earth
  • it is about growing some or all of one’s food, and
  • it is about using the kitchen to prepare food, to preserve food, to store food, and to serve food

Whether that kitchen is in an apartment, a condo, or a house, it is a key space for homesteading.

The Homestead Kitchen

What does a homestead kitchen look like?

Look at your kitchen- there it is!!

Take a look at your kitchen:
  • where do you serve food for you and your family?
  • where do you prepare food?
  • where are your pantry items, such as flour and canned goods?
  • do you have some herbs growing on the windowsill?
  • where is your favourite spoon for mixing and stirring?
  • where do family or friends stand/sit while watching your prepare food?

If you knew the answers to the above questions, you have a homesteading kitchen.

If you didn’t have an answer, are you going to change things up? Do you need to? Do you even want to?

It’s your kitchen and a homesteading kitchen works for you, for your lifestyle, and for your beliefs.

A homesteader makes conscious decisions about living that simpler life, that connected life.

Today’s kitchen is the cornerstone of tomorrow’s.
