Trash Can Rain Barrel

Trash Can Rain Barrel
I created this 20-gallon rain collection barrel from a 20-gallon trash can. I added a spigot to the bottom. To the lid, I drilled out two holes and flipped it upside down along with adding in two sink drain strainers. This allows for the collection of rainwater into the system. I can also fill it with excess water from the hose when draining it out. To the top, I added a rain barrel mosquito netting and Bungie cords to secure the netting in place.

where do I start!!!!
I'm with you on the garbage can and spigot... check.
But then --- WOW
> turn the lid upside down --- DAH OF COURSE!!!!!
> Sink drain strainers... huh?? BRILLIANT
> Rain barrel mosquito netting ... I never knew there was such a thing!! Well, I'm going shopping!!!!!

Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant.

And this is why I wanted to create Homesteadian.com -- share what you know and learn about what you don't!

Thank-you for sharing your project.

@Debbie Yeah I found most of the supplies on Amazon (spigot, strainers, rain barrel netting). The trash can I think I bought them at Walmart or Home Depot. It collects rain on its own or can be put under a water spout. Occasionally ill fill it with my hose and use my watering can from it.

Great Idea.  Cant wait to show my husband.
