I purchased this breed of chickens at 1 month old.. I plan to set eggs in the spring to increase our flock and have the extra males as meat for our family. With meat chickens becoming more hard to find this makes our farm more self sufficient. They are a duel purpose breed laying early with a heavy carcass for meat.

First of all, I have to say that that is a beautiful photo and it would look lovely hanging in any homestead kitchen!

ALMOST makes me want to get some chickens. Almost.. but I don’t think we are “new chicken farmers” at this point in our lives.
I will just pass the information on to our young neighbours who got their first chickens this year.
